In The Mood For A Snood

You don’t have to be an ardent follower of fashion to have noticed that with winter in full swing there seems to be an ever increasing amount of snoods being worn.  The cold snap should ensure that we are correctly dressed for winter and with the snood being a rising fashion accessory you’d do wise to sport one this AW11.

On Trend: The Snood

What Is A Snood?

The snood or winter scarf is a chunky, knitted, scarf-cum-hood which is ideal for winter as it can be pulled over ones lower face or hair whilst offering protection to the neck and ears.  Snoods come in a variety of materials with cashmere and thermal offerings being regularly sought after.   This fashion accessory is practical – especially in colder countries like: USA, Canada,UK and Russia.

Wrap It UP!

You can achieve the same look with of a snood by wrapping a common scarf around your neck several times.  However, that too is the downside of the humble scarf: you will almost certainly find that your tightly wrapped scarf will unravel during the course of the day.

How To Wear It?

A snood can give you a totally stylish look by lining up your head and at the same time hiding your long, skinny or fat neck.  As it is a combination of a scarf and a hood it can be worn over the head t give a hoodie-type appearance of as a scarf.  If you are not into wearing jewellery then you may find that a snood makes up for leaving ones neck feeling bare.   The snood can be worn with as much gusto by both men and women.

I’m very proud to say that I sported the Snood for the first time back in ’88. I recall seeing 3 GQ editorial shoots done in Italy that had guys wearing these amazing, chunky sweaters with Snood worn around the neck line. I was hooked! Seeing guys walk around town in NYC with these on is going to be the norm for a long time to come. 😉

    • Hello Brad,

I must say that I was not familiar with how long the snood had been around. It can be traced back to the middle ages in one guise or another. More recently I learnt that they were big in the 80’s. Then, like now it was the footballers who seems to have had a large role to play in the snoods popularity.

      Thanks for stopping by 🙂

    • Hello Rossana,

Good to hear from you my friend. I must admit that I am very surprised to learn that the snood is even being worn in Brazil since you guys have such warm weather.
That said I suppose it can get cold at night if you are close to the beach front. I hope you already have yours 🙂

      Keep in touch.
